The first new material from Apoptygma Berzerk with vocals since the 2013 "Major Tom EP" is finally here! On the "Exit Popularity Contest" album, APOP explored their roots in instrumental "Berlin school" progressive electronic music from the 1970's, and for this new material, APOP have held on to the old vintage analogue synthpop sound, echoing heroes like early The Human League. Mix this with the songwriting skills and vocals of Stephan Groth, and you have an indication of what to expect! "Nearest" is a track that was first released as "Near (Banilla Dream Version)" in 1995 on the "Non Stop Violece" CD-Single, and again in an other version as "Nearer" in 1996 on the "7" album. Now it looks like it has finally found its final form in "Nearest", a recording with Jonas Groth doing the vocals, making it an amazing and very emotional synth ballad. As bonus tracks on the CD EP you also get a "Deep Red" version by Vile Electrodes that only exists here called "The Long Cut", as it is not the same version as on the "Deep Red" (7") that was released last year. Top that off with a C-64 version of "Atom & Eve" by Zone Tripper and a Drugwar Remix of "A Battle For The Crown" and finish it off with the beautiful and cinematic "Jennifer Corvino", and you have a superb 8 track EP that will bring you hours of listening pleasure!
